Who's making nests?

As of mid-August, WildCare has received nearly 6,000 nests during the 2015 Baby Bird Nest Campaign, and it's obvious that all of them were knitted or crocheted with love and dedication to helping orphaned baby birds.

Thank you to all our wonderful knitters and crocheters!

Sometimes a package arrives that especially catches our attention... here are a few of the dedicated knitters and crocheters that have warmed our hearts.

Alice, age 6

"Dear People at WildCare..." begins the note with drawings Alice included with her nests.

"My name is Alice, and I'm six years old. I learned to knit to make super cute nests for the little birds. I hope they like them."

The three nests Alice sent (she's from Ireland but apparently she sent us the nests from Belgium... we're sure there's an interesting story there!) are perfectly constructed for the little birds, and their pretty colors will attract the eyes of our volunteers too.

Thank you, Alice, for knitting for our baby birds!

Elaine S., age 88

On the opposite end of the spectrum from Alice age-wise, we have the wonderful Elaine S. from Illinois!

Elaine's granddaughter Lisa saw information about WildCare's Baby Bird Nest Campaign and immediately thought of her grandmother.

In a letter Lisa included with the nests her grandmother knitted, Lisa says Elaine was "thrilled to do something she loved (knitting) for something she loves (birds)."

Lisa says she was "SHOCKED" when she went to her grandmother's home shortly after notifying her of the Campaign, to find that she had already made 35 beautiful nests!

Thank you, Elanie, for putting so much care into your nests!

 Elaine W., "fait avec amour"

It's very obvious that all of the beautiful nests WildCare has received were made with love, but Elaine W. from Toledo, Ohio actually included labels that said so!

Elaine's charming nests all included a small tag with the words "fait avec amour" which translates to mean "made with love" in French. Our nest team was charmed completely when we opened Elaine's box and saw her beautifully made (and beautifully labeled!) nests!

When asked what inspired her, Elaine responded:

"Thank you so much for the kind words about my knitted nests. I saw a segment on the evening news about Wildcare and the knitted nests & thought what a neat, loving thing to do."

"I like creating handmade items and giving them away. I wish I had started to knit years earlier.  I will check out your merchandise, I would love a tee shirt or maybe a tote bag for my knitting.  Blessings, Elaine"
